Every now and again we get dentists calling the office looking for a discount on our Introduction to Dental Sleep MBA™ events. “Your course is too expensive,” they say.
I am very grateful for calls like this because they allow me to easily disqualify these dentists from being considered as good candidates for a future in dental sleep medicine.
If your mindset is such that a $1,495 course that shows you a method for building a business in dental sleep medicine where you can see 20-50 patients per month at about $3K profit PER patient is too expensive, then your mindset is not appropriately tuned for the type of journey on which we lead our members.
You might think that the most complicated part of dental sleep medicine is the actual business. There are a lot of steps and you have to do all of them correctly in order to get paid. So yes, it IS complicated, but that’s why we’ve worked so hard to hammer out that complication into an easy to follow system.
The even HARDER part is dealing with the mind viruses that most dentists have been living with for 10, 20 or even 30 years.
While we can work on mindset, some dentists are just too far gone to come back to the type of thinking you need to be successful in this business.
One of the core shifts that must happen if you’re going to make it as a healthcare entrepreneur is that you’ve got to learn how to think in investment/return terms and put down your “Gospel of the Monthly Payment.” That is a terrible book that has ruined the financial futures of countless dentists.
Whether or not you can afford a payment on a monthly basis is NOT a smart way to assess opportunity. This keeps you away from smart opportunities and loads you up with terrible ones.
Believe me, I used to live this way.
I once went to learn about an appliance called the [redacted to protect the guilty]. It was a weekend course that cost $8K. All I got was knowledge with no help for applying that knowledge and transforming it into results. I paid $8K because I could afford it. I got ZERO in terms of ROI.
I also went to [redacted to protect the guilty] to learn how to do full mouth rehabs. It cost $60K. I walked out of there with a lot of education, but the investment was ROI NEGATIVE. Without knowing how to go out and get patients (which they didn’t include), the education was worthless.
Cheap and expensive are labels that don’t tell the full story.
So when I hear dentists use those words, it’s a big clue to me their mindset is not in the place we need it to be.
Investment and return, risk and reward. These are just a few of the mind tools of a healthcare entrepreneur, which is what you become in dental sleep medicine the way we do it.
